The Index Head Face Plate was originally designed to allow the Index Head from the Dome Chuck to be mounted on the spindle for phasing.

While it still may be used for this application, especially in a special set up such as repeated multi start threads, it is now used more for mounting the Paper Chuck and Pen Holder. It may also be used as an interchangeable wax chuck holder. It threads on to a 1″-8 spindle.
