Accuracy is of utmost importance in ornamental turning, and moving work
from machine to machine accurately has always been a struggle, especially
with screw threads. The Morse Taper Spindle has become ubiquitous on both
metal and wood lathes and today the MT2 has become virtually universal on
wood lathes. By using an adapter a chuck can be mounted and taken from
lathe to lathe very accurately eliminating the need for a leveling chuck
in many cases. The chuck is mounted to the adapter and the adapter,
chuck, and work then all move together for subsequent operations.
They are available in the following sizes: 3/4″-16 (Sherline), 1″-8, 1
1/4″-8, and M33.
